The game revolves around a young man named Ryuunosuke Ichimonji, an aspiring author and composer, who has a rare form of cancer. He loses his job and is shunned by his friends, but is determined to write a novel, and to live his life to the fullest. It explores themes of friendship, love, death, and humanity. It was developed by Nekoyon, a visual novel company founded by key staff members of non-profit organization Seisen International in November 2011. The company has produced four games in the series as of 2017, and has been awarded several prizes for each game. Visual novel The setting is a parallel modern day and the protagonist Ryuunosuke Ichimonji, a 23-year-old composer of mainly pop music, with his wife Yukiko in a wealthy town in Japan, where he works at a hospital as a part-time psychiatrist. In order to deal with the physical pain and mental anguish caused by his terminal cancer, he seeks out a doctor who is willing to provide him with powerful narcotics, but who he fears will ultimately abuse their position of power and kill him. His life is suddenly turned upside-down when a new patient who is a young man named Kouta Serizawa, also appears. Kouta is a near-perfect adult, who is a successful student and novelist, and who appears to have the same disease as Ryuunosuke, and also has a Japanese wife. The two hit it off right away, and begin an unlikely friendship. They discover that they are both part of a secret society, known as the Psychoanalysis Club, which aims to help its members live with their diseases and cope with the long term mental effects of their illnesses. Ryuunosuke reveals to Kouta that he has terminal cancer, and the two men bond over their struggle to find a doctor to treat them. Ryuunosuke is eventually diagnosed with terminal cancer, and is quickly given a terminal prognosis. Kouta finds him in the hospital and lets him know that he has been accepted to the Psychoanalysis Club, and provides him with the hope that he will live to meet his Japanese wife and have a son. It is from this point that the series focuses on Ryuunosuke's relationship with his friends, particularly Kouta, and his son, Shion.
